Somos el Futuro 2011 Albany Conference

April 3rd 2011
Luis R., walk

Being invited to the “Somos el Futuro”Albany 2011 conference was a tremendous honor for all of the members of “Walk”. Thanks and congratulations are due to Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz for creating this forum, allowing Latinos from New York the opportunity to have their voices heard. It was truly an inspiration experience to observe our elected representatives share their ideas that will help to shape the future of our community. All of the events included this weekend including the forum, receptions, dinners and different functions, all served the same purpose; to highlight crucial issues facing the NYC Latino community. Included in the issues addressed were education, health care, voting rights, census, technology and small business. A particular highlight of the weekend was hearing that “The Dream Act” is still very much alive and on the lips of lawmakers. Thanks to Assemblymen Guillermo Linares and Nelson L. Castro, the education forum is keeping this most important piece of legislation at the forefront. Overall, the weekend was an informative and inspiring. Thanks goes to our elected officials who keep fighting our causes even when we cannot be present.
